Gildar Gallery is proud to present a booth at the 2016 Material Art Fair in Mexico City featuring three young artists where the mix is the message.
Born in the midst of the postmodern storm, young artists Dmitri Obergfell, Zach Reini and SANGREE (Carlos René Godínez Pozas and Carlos Lara) easily navigate and draw sustenance from the torrent of competing symbols swirling around them. These artists are of a generation that takes the current hyper-saturated and discursive image-scape as a given. As native users they grab and reconfigure floating signifiers at will without hesitation. Corporate logos, religious icons, punk monikers, ancient ruins and rap lyrics are all fair game as basic materials in this expanded atmosphere. Beginning from their own contextually specific experiences, the artists’ shared interests reveal themselves in three and two-dimensional artworks that conflate histories to create new yet familiar fictions. And Why Not? At the edge of reason, perhaps the mix is the message.
